Chapter 12

Before long, Jess had spotted a potential. That quickly turned to dancing, and at the moment, they were making out as if she were a cheap tramp. I just hoped the alcohol was making her act that way and that she hadn’t been drugged again.

Dancing on my own quickly caught the attention of guys who thought I was an easy pick since my friend was preoccupied. Soon after, I became a magnet.

Turning the tenth one down, I looked up at the window to Jett’s office and saw him standing there with his arms crossed, watching me. How I was able to see through the tinted window was beyond me. But I quickly forgot about how strange that was as a pang of guilt surged through me. Even though I wasn’t doing anything wrong, I knew how I would feel if the roles were reversed. All I could say was that Jett had a lot more control than I would have had.

I shot him a smile, which he returned, melting my heart.

“I’m not interested,” I said, returning my attention to the completely wired blond guy standing before me.

I headed for the bathroom, knowing that excuse wouldn’t cause a scene. I’d never used the one downstairs, and I just hoped they weren’t all occupied with women snorting drugs.

I didn’t get to find out because a hand wrapped around my wrist and pulled me to the side. The next thing I knew, I was being pushed up against the wall, and Josh was standing in front of me. “I’m sorry, okay?”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “For what? Fucking my friend? Pretending it never happened? Or for being so egotistical that you think I would get back together with you?”

“I was drunk when I… I didn’t know what I was doing.”

I shook my head. “Didn’t know what you were doing, my ass.”

He stared at the ground for a moment before saying, “It was a mistake.” He tipped his head up and looked me in the eyes. “If you give me another chance, I promise I’ll never do it again.”

I barked out a laugh. “After everything you’ve done, you expect me to take—”

He pressed himself against me and kissed me. Afraid he’d end up like the guys on the beach, I was about to knee him in the balls before I lost control of myself, but his lips were ripped away from mine as someone lifted him away from me. For a second, I didn’t realise what was happening. Jett had his hand around Josh’s neck, holding him up in the air. He transferred him from one hand to the other, turning Josh around in the process so he could look in him in the eyes.

A look of sheer terror crossed Josh’s face when Jett’s eyes turned solid black as he squeezed tighter and tighter. Josh opened his mouth, but no sound came out. His eyes started to roll back as he lost consciousness. When blood dripped down Josh’s neck, I snapped out of my daze.
